These instructions apply to the MSA6X/7X, Proliant
Before you begin
DL320S, EVA4400, EVA6400, and EVA8400 product
families.
Observe the following precautions when replacing the backplane.
CAUTION:
Parts can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Use proper
anti-static protection. Refer to the documentation that shipped
with your system for additional information.
Slate blue-colored items, such as the backplane thumbscrews,
means their attached component is not hot-swappable. Power
to the enclosure must be shut down before the component is
removed.

Before replacing the backplane, verify its failure by checking the LED
status of the disk drives as described in Table 1.

• Flashing—Drive is spinning up or down and
is not ready.
Green (bottom)
• Solid—Drive is ready to perform I/O opera-
tions.
• Flickering—Indicates drive activity.
• Flashing blue—Used to locate drive.
Bi-color (top)
• Solid amber—Drive fault.
