Feed flexible gas line into fireplace base area while replacing log base assembly. Make sure the entire flexible gas line is in fireplace base area. Apply a bead of non-hardening mastic around the outside edge of the vent cap. Position the vent cap in the center of the 7 1/2" or 10" hole on the exterior wall with the arrow on the vent cap pointing up. Insure proper clearance of 1" to combustibles is maintained. Check your building codes for any special requirements for locating manual shutoff valve to fireplaces. Apply pipe joint sealant lightly to male threads. This will prevent excess sealant from going into pipe. Excess sealant in pipe could result in clogged fireplace valves. We recommend that you install a sediment trap/drip leg in supply line as shown in Figure 35. Locate sediment trap/drip leg where it is within reach for cleaning.
