Whenev
er
there
is
an
unexpected
failure
that
necessitates
a
reb o oting
If
a
driv
e
fails
during
of
the
system,
or
when
a
split-volume
set
is
joined
in
to
a
mirrored
the
repair
operation
v
olume
set,
all
mirrored
pairs
undergo
a
repair
pro cess.
This
is
necessary
to
guarantee
the
consistency
of
the
disks.
During
the
repair
op eration,
one
disk
is
copied
to
the
other.
If
the
source
disk
fails
during
this
p erio
d,
there
is
no
w
a
y
to
reco
v
er
from
it
without
restoring
the
les
from
tap
e.
If
the
source
driv
e
of
a
staged
or
repairing
v
olume
pair
b ecomes
unresp onsive
(due
to
loss
of
p o
w
er,
for
example)
or
suers
a
hard
error,
the
system
b eha
v
es
just
as
if
there
w
ere
no
mirroring
presen
t.
If
the
destination
driv
e
of
a
repairing
v
olume
pair
b ecomes
unresp onsive
or
suers
a
hard
error,
it
is
marked
DISABLED .
If
the
destination
driv
e
of
a
staged
v
olume
pair
b ecomes
unresp onsive
after
b eing
staged,
but
b efore
transitioning
to
b e
repaired,
it
is
marked
DISABLED
at
repair
time.
This
is
a
more
sp ecic
case
of
a
failure
during
repair.
If
a
If
a
driv
e
fails
during
JOINMIRRSET
completes
and
during
the
repair
one
of
the
the
join
operation
REPAIR-SRCE
disks
b ecomes
disbaled,
the
v
olume
set
cannot
b e
reco
v
ered
and
has
to
b e
reloaded.
Additionally
,
the
system
cannot
reco
v
er
from
the
follo
wing
user
errors:
Improp er
use
of
the
SUSPENDMIRRVOL
command.
Softw
are
errors.
Direct
mo
dication
of
disk.
It
is
p ossible
through
the
use
of
the
SUSPENDMIRRVOL
command
to
If
y
ou
misuse
the
force
the
system
to
moun
t
and
use
a
driv
e
that
is
bad.
Because
SUSPENDMIRRV
OL
of
driv
e
errors,
it
may
not
ha
v
e
b een
p ossible
to
mark
the
driv
e
command
itself
as
bad
when
the
errors
o ccurred.
No
w
if
the
v
olume
set
is
remoun
ted
without
the
go
o d
partner,
there
may
b e
no
w
a
y
for
the
system
to
kno
w
that
the
driv
e
is
bad.
In
this
case
the
use
of
the
SUSPENDMIRRVOL
command
could
force
the
moun
ting
of
the
bad
driv
e,
whic
h
may
con
tain
data
that
has
not
b een
up dated.
While
this
situation
is
highly
unlik
ely
,
care
m
ust
b e
taken
when
using
this
command
to
ensure
that
the
disk
in
question
is
go
o d.
A
mirrored
disk
system
oers
no
protection
against
softw
are
errors
If
y
ou
create
a
softw
are
that
mistak
enly
write
bad
data
to
disk.
The
bad
data
is
mirrored
error
just
as
an
y
other
writing
to
disk.
Privileged
mo
de
users
could,
through
DEBUG,
make
mo
dication
to
If
y
ou
modify
a
disk
one
partner
of
a
mirrored
pair
without
notifying
the
mirrored
disk
system.
This
causes
the
partner
disks
to
b e
inconsisten
t
and
could
lead
to
unpredictable
results.
