Always disconnect the unit before cleaning, servicing, handling or disassembling unit. 4 . Clean dead insects from bottom of unit frequentlyto reduce risk of fire. 5 . Keep extension cord connections dry and off theg r o u n d . 6 . Do not abuse power cord. Never carry unit bycord or yank cord to disconnect from receptacle. Keep power cord from heat, oil and sharp edges. Repair or replace damaged cord. 7 . Do not mount unit on house, deck or other structures or near gas, oil or other inflammable materials. 8 . General Information Your Flowtron Electronic Insect Killer attracts light sensitive flyinginsects with its high intensity ultraviolet light and its uniqueO C T E N O L slow release lure. As insects fly toward the light, theypass through a patented vertical rod killing grid and are destroyedcleanly and efficiently without the use of chemical fogs or sprays. Installation 1 . Unpack the insect killer. Save the carton and fillers. Use themfor storage during off-season months. 2 . Choose a sturdy mounting device from which to hang the unit. Ifpermanent installation is desired, check your local electricalcodes and see a professional electrician. 3 . Hang the insect killer at a height of six to eight feet above theground. 4 . Place the unit 25 to 50 feet away from the area intended forhuman activity. Position the insect killer between the source ofinsects (woods, lowlands, etc.) and the area to be protected. POOL/PATIO 25 – 50 FEET FLOWTRON SOURCE UNIT OF INSECTS 5 . Plug the power cord into a grounded outdoor outlet or a U.L. listed 18 gauge extension cord. The bulb(s) will emit a bluishglow within a few seconds. Note: Bulb may flicker slightly when insects are being destroyed. This is normal operation. Extension Cords Outdoor extension cords may be used with the Flowtron insectkiller. Use extension cords marked SJW-A or SJTW-A and tagged“suitable for use with outdoor appliances.'' The electrical rating of the extension cord must be as great as the electrical rating of your Flowtron insect killer. Use only three-wire extension cords which have three-prong grounding type plugs and three-pole receptacles which accept the product’s plug. (Applies to BK-15D and BK-80D only). Appropriate extension cords and devices for retaining an extension cord connection to the Flowtron insect killer power cord are available at your local dealer. NOTICE: Grounding Instructions apply to models BK-15D andBK-80D. All other models are equipped with a two-wire powercord and do not require a three-wire extension cord or agrounding type receptacle. GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS Your Flowtron insect killer is equipped with an appropriate three- conductor cord and three-prong grounding type plug to fitthe proper grounding type receptacle. To reduce the riskof electrical shock the plug must be plugged into anappropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded. Your Flowtron insect killer has a grounding plug that looks like theplug as shown and is intended for use on a circuit that has an outlet as shown. Consult a qualified electrician or serviceman if the groundinginstructions are not completely understood, or in doubt as towhether proper grounding exists. OCTENOL MOSQUITO ATTRACTANT U.S. Government and university researchers have demonstratedthat octenol, a component of respiration, is effective in attractingmany species of mosquitoes and biting flies. Your Flowtron insectkiller uses an exclusive slow-release Octenol mosquito Attractantcartridge (MA-1000) which increases the effectiveness of theinsect killer to lure mosquitoes and biting flies into its killing grid. Directions for Use: Remove the octenol cartridge from the sealed pouch and peel theprotective cover from the face of the cartridge. Avoid touching theopenings in the cartridge and always Cartridge wash your hands thoroughly after Protective Cover contact. openings Installation: Remove the double face tape from thepouch and peel the backing paper off one Insect Killer Enclosure side of the tape. Press the tape to the Bulb bottom of the cartridge, (side opposite theopenings). Bulb Retainer Double Peel the backing paper from the other Face Tape side of the tape and press the cartridgefirmly into the bulb retainer at the bottom of Openings the enclosure (see illustration). Cartridge Operation: When your insect killer is on it will provide the heat and convective air flow to vaporize the lure and disperse it at the proper rateper hour for maximum effectivity.
