No.4000LB Long-Life Lithium PowerWITH 10-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY Research available through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) indicates that as many as one-third of all residential smoke alarms do not work. The primary cause is due to DEAD or MISSING batteries. This Long-Life Lithium Powered Smoke Alarm reduces the chance of an inoperable smoke alarm. APPLICATION: BRK Electronics Model 4000LB is a single station smoke alarm specifically designed for existing residential and institutional applications including sleeping rooms of hospitals, hotels, motels, dormitories, and other multifamily dwellings as defined in standard NFPA 101. Model 4000LB has been fully tested and complies with Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Single and Multiple Station Smoke Alarms UL217, CSFM, NFPA 72, NFPA 101 and with model building codes published by ICBO, SBCCI, BOCA, and CABO. Model 4000LB is designed to give reliable early warning of fire by providing an 85dB alarm when the unit senses smoke from fire. 4000LB is powered by a replaceable long-life lithium power cell which carries a 10 year limited warranty. The unit features an ionization sensing chamber which operates on the ionization principle, a generally more effective method of detecting smoke from fast flaming fires. The sensing chamber consists of two electrically charged plates and a source of Americium 241 to ionize the air molecules in the space between the plates. As particles of combustion enter the ionization chamber, they collide and combine with ionized air molecules reducing the number of ionized air particles, resulting in a decrease in current between the two plates. Electronic circuitry monitors the change in current. When smoke inside the chamber reaches a level of 1.20%/ft, the unit triggers an audible alarm. A manual test feature checks all detector functions by stimulating the chamber to simulate a 1.20%/ft smoke condition, causing the unit to alarm. In case of an unwanted alarm, 4000LB features a silencer button that resets and quiets the unit while the occupants respond. Model 4000LB was designed with quick and easy installation in mind. The unit surface mounts to ceilings and walls with hardware included. ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING SPECIFICATIONS: The smoke alarm shall be BRK Electronics Model 4000LB or approved equal and shall provide, at a minimum, the following features and functions. 1. An ionization sensing chamber with nominal sensitivity of 1.20%/Ft. 2. The unit shall be capable of self-restoring. 3. A fully screened sensing chamber to prevent entrance of small insects thereby reducing probability of unwanted alarms. Ionization 4. The smoke alarm shall be powered by a long-life lithium power cell. 5. A visual LED (green) power-on indicator flashes about once/minute to confirm the unit is receiving DC power. 6. A manual test button to check all detector functions by stimulating the chamber to simulate a 1.20%/ft. smoke condition, causing the unit to alarm. 7. A silence button to manually reset and quiet the unit during an unwanted alarm. 8. A solid state piezo alarm horn rated at 85dB at 10ft. 9. The unit shall be capable of operating between 40°F and 100°F (4°-38°C) and relative humidity of 10% and 90%. 10. The unit shall surface mount to any wall or ceiling. 11. The unit shall at a minimum meet the requirements of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. Single and Multiple Station Smoke Alarms UL217, CSFM, NFPA 72, and NFPA 101 and with model building codes published by ICBO, SBCCI, BOCA, and CABO. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Operating Voltage 9V DC Operating Ambient Temp. Range 40°F(4°C) to 100°F(38°C) Operating Humidity Range 10% to 90% RH Nominal Sensitivity 1.20%/Ft.
