The correct disposal of old products will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health. • Batteries (including built-in rechargeable batteries) contain substances that may pollute the environment. All batteries should be disposed of at an official collection point. 3 Your Digital Voice Tracer 1 Headphone socket, remote control socket 2 Microphone socket, line-in socket 3 Built-in microphone 4 Volume up 5 Record, pause, power on 6 Fast forward, file selection, menu selection 7 Stop, display, delete 8 Volume down 9 Speaker 10 USB socket 11 Battery compartment 12 Power on/off, play/pause, play speed 13 Menu, FM radio, zoom function 14 Fast rewind, file selection, menu selection 15 Index, folder, repeat 16 Display 17 Hold switch 18 Record/play indicator 4 Get started 4.1 Insert the batteries The Voice Tracer can be operated with the rechargeable Philips batteries LFH9154 or AAA alkaline batteries. 1 Slide open the battery cover. 19 2 Place the batteries in the correct polarity as indicated and close the cover. 20 D Notes • Do not mix batteries of different types and/or brands. • Remove the batteries if you will not be using the Voice Tracer for an extended period. Leaking batteries may damage the Voice Tracer. • If the Voice Tracer malfunctions, remove the batteries and re.insert them. • Stop the recorder before replacing the batteries. Removing the batteries while the recorder is in use may corrupt the file. • When the batteries are nearly empty, the battery indicator blinks. • If it takes longer than 2 minutes to replace the battery, you may have to reset the time. 4.2 Charge the batteries The rechargeable Philips batteries LFH9154 can be charaged in the Voice Tracer. When the Voice Tracer is connected to a computer, the rechargeable batteries are automatically charged. A complete recharge cycle takes about 2.5 hours. D Notes • Batteries other than the supplied Philips batteries LFH9154 cannot be charged. • Fully charge the batteries before first use. • The computer must be ON when charging the batteries. • If the USB port of the computer does not supply enough power capacity, disable the charge function (see chapter 9 for more information) and use an external battery charger. 4.3 Power on/off 1 To power on, press the k button until the display shows HELLO. 2 To power off, press the k button while the recorder is stopped until the display shows BYE. 4.4 Hold function When the HOLD switch 17 is in the Hold position, all buttons on the device are inactive. On Hold will be shown briefly on the display, and the display will turn off. Unlock the Voice Tracer by moving the HOLD switch to the Off position. 4.5 Set date and time When the batteries are installed for the first time, you will be prompted to set the date and time. 1 ‘CLOCK’ will be shown on the display 21 . Press the k button. The year indicator flashes 22 . 2 Press the h or b button to set the year. 3 Press the k button to advance to the settings for the month. 4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to continue to set the month, day, 12/24- hour system and the time in the same way. D Note The date and time can be changed at any time using the menu. See chapter 9 for more information. 4.6 Display information • Press the j / DEL button while the recorder is stopped to rotate the information on the display: total playback time of the current file > time > date > remaining recording time > recording time of the current file > recording date of the current file. • Press and hold k during recording to display the remaining recording time. 4.7 Use the Voice Tracer with a computer As a USB mass storage device, the Voice Tracer offers a convenient way to save, back up and move files. The Voice Tracer connects to a computer using a USB connection and does not require special software to be installed. The Voice Tracer is automatically displayed as a removable drive, allowing you to simply drag and drop files to and from the unit. 23 D Notes • Do not disconnect the Voice Tracer while files are transferred from or to the device. Data is still being transferred while the record/play indicator light 18 is blinking in orange. • Do not format the drive of the Voice Tracer on a computer. 4.8 Connect the remote control (LFH0885 only) The remote control can be used to start and pause recording, to add a new file and to add an index mark. 1 Connect the remote control to the EAR jack of the Voice Tracer 24 . 4.9 Use the docking station (LFH0868/LFH0888 only) The docking station can be used to upload files from your Voice Tracer to a computer and recharge the batteries. 25 1 Connect the docking station to a computer with the supplied USB cable. 2 Insert the Voice Tracer into the docking slot of the docking station. 5 Record 5.1 Record with the built-in microphone 1 Press the INDEX / a button while the recorder is stopped to select the desired folder 26 . 2 Press the g button to start recording.
