1. The outside of the air purifier can be cleaned with a soft, clean, dampened cloth. 2. The front grill can be removed and washed in warm soapy water (Not dishwasher safe). Dry before replacing in the unit. 3. The top air outlet grill can be cleaned of dust with a small soft brush. WARNING: Do not allow moisture to come in contact with the main housing of the air purifier. FILTER REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS 1. Every few weeks, check the condition of the pre-filter. 2. Remove the front grill. Examine the foam pre-filter. If the pre-filter has collected a noticeable amount of dust or lint, remove it from the inlet of the grill and wash it in warm soapy water. Rinse and drip dry the pre-filter thoroughly before replacing it in the inlet of the grill. 3. The filter check indicator light on the control panel will illuminate when HEPA filter replacement is needed. 4. With the front grill removed, remove the used HEPA cartridge and dispose of it in the garbage. Do NOT try to wash and re-use the HEPA filter. Replace with a new HEPA HAPF 30 filter, removing the protective polybag before inserting into the air purifier. 5. Align the clips on the top of your HEPA filter with the rails on the inside of the unit. Gently slide the filter onto the rail. NOTE: The pleated material and rubber gasket should be facing towards the unit when applied. 6. After replacing the HEPA filter, RESET the filter change indicator by inserting a small object (such as a pin or paper clip) into the hole marked reset. 7. Filter Life – Under normal conditions of continuous use, the HEPA filter will operate efficiently for 4-6 months. 8. Replacement filters (HAPF30) are available from your local supplier or by calling 1-800-5-Holmes. Page 3 FEATURES OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS CLEANING/MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS 1. Plug into a 120V AC electrical outlet. 2. Select the desired operating speed; HI, MEDIUM, LOW, by sliding the switch to the appropriate setting. If you have an HAP244 or HAP246 the speed settings are indicated with green lights. You set the speed by pressing the power button. 3. To release negative ions into the filtered air, slide the ionizer button to ON and the amber light will illuminate. If you have an HAP244 or HAP246 the ionizer is activated by pressing the ionizer symbol on the control panel. The amber light will illuminate when on. 4. The ionizer will not work unless the unit is running. 5. The HAP246 comes with a remote control. To operate the unit you simply depress the desired buttons. 6. For optimum air filtration, it is recommended to operate the air purifier continuously. Its rugged motor has been designed to give many years of use. For continuous use, it is recommended to operate the air purifier at the NORMAL setting. For quieter operation or use in a bedroom, select the QUIET setting.
