For fast-moving events like soccer, choose AF-area mode to enable rapid AF-area mode selection. Focus function buttons Lenses with Focus Function Selectors The following lenses feature focus function selectors: • AF.S NIKKOR 800 mm f/5.6E FL ED VR • AF.S NIKKOR 600 mm f/4G ED VR • AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR • AF.S NIKKOR 400 mm f/2.8E FL ED VR • AF.S NIKKOR 400 mm f/2.8G ED VR • AF.S NIKKOR 300 mm f/2.8G ED VR II • AF.S NIKKOR 200 mm f/2G ED VR II • AF.S NIKKOR 200–400 mm f/4G ED VR II l AF-Area Mode Selection Select Custom Setting f19, then highlight AF-area mode, press 2, and choose the AF-area mode that will be assigned to the focus function buttons (3D-tracking excluded). The chosen focus point can then be selected by pressing any of the focus function buttons; the original selection is restored when the button is released. • h I Disable/enable: If the flash is currently off, front-curtain sync will be selected while any of the focus function buttons is pressed. If the flash is currently enabled, it will instead be disabled while a focus function button is pressed. • c Disable synchronized release: Keep any of the focus function buttons pressed to take photographs only with the master camera when using a wireless transmitter or wireless remote controller for remote synchronized release. • d Remote release only: Keep any of the focus function buttons pressed to take photographs only with the remote cameras when using a wireless transmitter or wireless remote controller for remote synchronized release. Remote release can also be assigned to the Fn or Pv button using Custom Setting f3 (Assign Fn button) or f4 (Assign preview button). AF Fine-Tuning If you find that certain lenses do not produce the desired results with autofocus, you can fine-tune autofocus for each lens using the AF fine-tune option in the setup menu.
