Set the input selector on the VCR to LINE. When your TV is monaural (When your TV has only one audio input jack) Connect the yellow plug of the A/V connecting cable to the video input jack and connect the white or the red plug to the audio input jack of your TV or VCR. When you want to play the sound in monaural mode, use a connecting cable (optional) for that purpose. If your TV/VCR has a 21-pin connector (EUROCONNECTOR) Use the 21-pin adaptor supplied with your camcorder (For models with the mark printed on their bottom surfaces only). This adaptor is designed for output use only. TV/VCR Playback Locating a scene on a tape for playback (DCR-HC18E/HC20E) Searching quickly for a desired scene – Zero set memory mREW PLAY STOP DISPLAY ZERO SET MEMORY 1 During playback, press ZERO SET MEMORY on the Remote Commander at the point you want to locate later on. The tape counter is reset to “0:00:00” and appears on the screen. 0:00:0060min FN If the tape counter is not displayed, press DISPLAY on the Remote Commander. 2 Press STOP when you want to stop playback. 3 Press mREW. The tape stops automatically when the tape counter reaches “0:00:00.” 4 Press PLAY. The playback starts from the point designated “0:00:00” on the tape counter. To cancel the operation Press ZERO SET MEMORY on the Remote Commander again. b Notes • There may be a discrepancy of several seconds between the time code and the tape counter. • Zero set memory will not function correctly if there is a blank section between recorded sections on the tape. Searching for a scene using Cassette Memory – Title search You can locate a scene where you have added a title (p. 51). SEARCH M. . / > STOP 1 Slide the POWER switch repeatedly to select the PLAY/EDIT mode. 2 Press SEARCH M. on the Remote Commander repeatedly to select [TITLE SEARCH]. 3 Press . (previous)/> (next) on the Remote Commander to select a title that you want to play. Playback Playback starts automatically from the selected title. Searching for a scene by date of recording – Date search When you are using a cassette with Cassette Memory, you can locate a scene by the recording date ([CM SEARCH] is set to [ON] by default). When you are using a cassette that does not have Cassette Memory, you can locate the point where the recording date changes. When your cassette does not have Cassette Memory, you can select the previous or the next date of the present point on the tape. Playback starts automatically from the point where the date changes. Screen example (when the cassette has Cassette Memory): DATE SEARCH 1 4 / 1 / 04 2 4 / 1 / 04 3 5 / 1 / 04 Point where the playback starts Present point on the tape To cancel the operation Press STOP on the Remote Commander. b Notes • If one day’s recording is less than 2 minutes, your camcorder may not accurately find the point where the recording date changes. • Date search will not function correctly when there is a blank section between recorded sections on the tape. • You can record date/time data for up to 6 days. When you have recorded for more than 7 days on a tape, locate the date without using the Cassette Memory. To turn off the Cassette Memory, select (CM SET), [CM SEARCH], and then [OFF] (p. 53). Searching for a still image – Photo search When you are using a cassette with Cassette Memory, you can locate the still image by ,continued Playback Playback choosing the recording date on the screen. ([CM SEARCH] is set to [ON] by default). When you are using a cassette that does not have Cassette Memory, your camcorder searches the still image automatically regardless of the recording date. When your cassette does not have Cassette Memory, your camcorder selects the still image before and behind the current point of the tape.
