Data file name is incorrect or flashing • The file may be corrupted. • The file format may not be supported by your camcorder. Use the supported file format (p. 102). Recording Refer also to “Discs/"Memory Stick Duo"” (p. 88). Pressing START/STOP does not record movies on the disc. • The playback screen is displayed. Set your camcorder to recording standby (p. 33). • Your camcorder is recording the scene you have just shot on the disc. • The disc has run out of space. Use a new disc or format the disc (DVD-RW/DVD+RW only, p. 59). Or delete the unnecessary images (p. 48). • When you are using one of the following discs after finalizing it, make the disc to be able to record additional scenes (p.60). Or use a new disc. – DVD-RW (VIDEO mode) – DVD+RW • The temperature of your camcorder is extremely high. Turn off your camcorder and leave it for a while in a cool place. • Moisture condensation has occurred with the disc. Turn off your camcorder and leave it for about 1 hour in a cool place (p. 106). You cannot record a still image. • The playback screen is displayed. Set your camcorder to recording standby (p. 33). • The “Memory Stick Duo” has run out of space. Use a new “Memory Stick Duo” or format the “Memory Stick Duo” (p. 60). Or delete the unnecessary images (p. 49). • You cannot record a still image together with: – [SMTH SLW REC] – [FADER] – [D.EFFECT] – [PICT.EFFECT] • You cannot record a still image on a disc on your camcorder. Troubleshooting Continued , 89 Troubleshooting (Continued) The ACCESS lamp lights up even when you stop recording. • Your camcorder is recording the scene you have just shot on the disc. The recording angle looks different. • The recording angle may look different depending on the mode of your camcorder. This is not a malfunction. The flash does not work. • You cannot record with the flash with: – Capturing still images while shooting a movie – The conversion lens (optional) attached • Even if auto flash or (Auto redeye reduction) is selected, you cannot use the flash with: – NightShot – [SUPER NIGHTSHOT] – [TWILIGHT], [CANDLE], [SUNRISE&SUNSET], [FIREWORKS], [LANDSCAPE], [SPOTLIGHT], [BEACH] or [SNOW] in [SCENE SELECTION] – [MANUAL] in [EXPOSURE] –[SPOT METER] The actual recording time for movie is less than the expected approximate recording time of a disc. • Depending on an object, such as a fast moving object, the time available for recording may shorten (p. 12). The recording stops. • The temperature of your camcorder is extremely high. Turn off your camcorder and leave it for a while in a cool place. • Moisture condensation has occurred with the disc. Turn off your camcorder and leave it about 1 hour in a cool place (p. 106). There is a time difference between the point where you press START/ STOP and the point that the recorded movie starts/stops. • On your camcorder, there may be a slight time difference between the point where you press START/STOP and the actual point that recording movie starts/stops. This is not a malfunction. The movie aspect ratio (16:9/4:3) cannot be changed. • You cannot change the movie aspect ratio if your disc is DVD+RW. The auto focus does not function. • Set [FOCUS] to [AUTO] (p. 76). • The recording conditions are not suitable for auto focus. Adjust the focus manually (p. 76). [STEADYSHOT] does not function. • Set [STEADYSHOT] to [ON] (p. 65). • [STEADYSHOT] may not be able to compensate for excessive vibrations. The BACK LIGHT function does not function. • The BACK LIGHT function cannot be used during Easy Handycam operation. The subjects passing by the frame very fast appear crooked. • This is called the focal plane phenomenon. This is not a malfunction. Because of the way the image device (CMOS sensor) reads out image signals, the subjects passing by the frame rapidly might appear crooked depending on the recording conditions. Tiny spots in white, red, blue, or green appear on the screen. • The spots appear when you are recording with [SUPER NIGHTSHOT] or [COLOR SLOW SHTR]. This is not a malfunction. The color of the image is not correctly displayed. • Set the NIGHTSHOT switch to OFF (p. 36). The screen image is bright, and the subject does not appear on the screen. • Set the NIGHTSHOT switch to OFF (p. 36). The screen image is dark, and the subject does not appear on the screen. • Press and hold DISP/BATT INFO for a few seconds to turn on the backlight (p. 25). Horizontal stripes appear on the image. • This occurs when recording images under a fluorescent lamp, sodium lamp, or mercury lamp. This is not malfunction. Black bands appear when you record a TV screen or computer screen. • Set [STEADYSHOT] to [OFF] (p. 65) (DCR-DVD406E/DVD408E/DVD808E). [SUPER NIGHTSHOT] cannot be operated. • Set the NIGHTSHOT switch to ON. [COLOR SLOW SHTR] does not operate correctly. • [COLOR SLOW SHTR] may not operate correctly in total darkness.
