HP-UX 10.x Driver Changes and Developer’s Guide (10.20 Driver
Information is Valid for 11.11)
Autochanger Drivers Overview
Autochanger Drivers Overview
HP-UX version 10.x supplies three separate device drivers to provide
support for autochangers. Two of the drivers are medium changer
drivers; the third is a surface driver. The medium changer drivers
conform to the SCSI-2 specification for medium changer devices and
provide a generic interface to any SCSI-2 compliant medium changer
device. The surface driver is provided specifically to support Hewlett-
Packard magneto-optical disk autochanger products.
In HP-UX 10.x, the two medium changer drivers are known as schgr and
autox0. schgr corresponds to the series 700 (WSIO) driver, and autox0
corresponds to the series 800 (SIO) driver. There is a single surface
driver binary, known as ssrfc, which works for both series 700 and series
800 systems. IMPORTANT: Although the surface driver ssrfc is built and
depends upon the medium changer drivers, users should be aware that if

present as well, then the functionality described in "HP-UX 10.x Surface
Driver," will be available. There is some overlap in functionality, but
users should think of the medium changer drivers and the surface driver
as two sets of mutually exclusive functionality.
Configuration Details
By default, none of the autochanger drivers are configured into the HP-
UX 10.x kernel, though they are provided in the system kernel library (/
etc/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a). To use the autochanger drivers, the
administrator must build a new kernel containing the appropriate
drivers. Below is a table showing which kernel drivers must be included
(e.g., in the /stand/system file) to have the specified autochanger
