When the Status indicator remains green and the SCSI indicator is off, the server is
ready for use. Depending on the number of drives in use, this may take a few seconds to
five minutes.
The server auto-negotiates the link speed—10 or 100 megabits per second—with other
devices on the network.
Step 2. Assign the IP Address
If you have IP networking, do this step. If you do not have IP networking, stop this
procedure and use chapters 4 and 5 of the User’s Guide to continue the installation.
ARP and DHCP are the easiest methods for assigning the IP address and both are described
here. For other methods, see chapter 3 of the User’s Guide.
Note. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a service that allows the network to
set IP addresses. This server is a DHCP-enabled device and is ready for automatic
assignment of an IP address if DHCP is used. To set up DHCP, skip the ARP
procedure below and go to the following DHCP procedure.
Using ARP
1.
Obtain an unused IP address from the network administrator.
2.
Get the LAN hardware address (MAC address) from the LAN address label attached to the
top of the tower.
The address is in the form pppppphhhhhh (where pppppp is a six-character HP prefix
and hhhhhhh is a six-character hardware address. Together, these 12 characters form
six hexadecimal digits.
