Playing a disc To play a disc: 1 Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray. 2 Place a disc in the disc tray. Caution There are two different disc sizes. Place the disc in the correct guide on the disc tray. If the disc is out of the guide, it may damage the disc and cause the DVD player to malfunction. Do not place a damaged or otherwise unplayable disc in the DVD player. 3 Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the disc tray. The disc starts playing automatically. Note Some discs do not start playing automatically. Press PLAY/ENTER to start playback. Some discs may start playback with a menu. Use the cursor buttons on the remote control to select the menu options and press PLAY/ENTER to start playback. You can also use the numeric pad to select a menu option directly. Many DVDs will not allow you to press buttons during start-up. Pausing a disc To pause playback: 1 Press PAUSE/STEP to pause playback. The sound is muted while the disc is paused. 2 Press PLAY/ENTER to resume normal playback. Stopping a disc To stop playback: 1 Press STOP to stop playback. Your television screen shows the start logo. The player can remember where some discs, such as DVDs and audio CDs, stopped and it can restart playback at that point. 2 Press PLAY/ENTER to resume playback at the point the disc was stopped. -OR- Press STOP again to completely stop playback. Insignia NS-13CTV TV/DVD Combo Skipping chapters During playback, you can skip back or skip ahead a chapter. To skip backward: • Press PREV to restart the current chapter. -OR- Press PREV multiple times to skip backward one chapter per button press. To skip forward: • Press NEXT to skip to the beginning of the next chapter. Fast forwarding and fast reversing To fast forward playback: 1 Press FWD to fast forward through the disc. Each time you press FWD, the speed changes. 2 Press PLAY/ENTER when you want to resume normal playback. To fast reverse playback: 1 Press REV to fast forward through the disc. Each time you press REV, the speed changes. 2 Press PLAY/ENTER when you want to resume normal playback. Single-stepping playback To single-step playback: 1 Press PAUSE/STEP. The playback is paused. 2 Press PAUSE/STEP repeatedly to step through the playback. 3 Press PLAY/ENTER to resume normal playback. Playing a DVD in slow motion To play a DVD in slow motion: 1 Press SLOW. Each time you press SLOW, the speed changes. 2 Press PLAY/ENTER to resume normal playback. Note This feature does not work when playing audio or MP3 CDs. Viewing DVD subtitles You can select from up to 32 subtitle languages to view while watching a DVD. The number of languages available varies depending on what has been pre-recorded on the DVD. To view DVD subtitles: 1 Press SUBTITLE. The screen displays SUBTITLE 01/XX XXXXX. • 01 is the number of this subtitle language. • XX is the total number of available languages on the DVD. • XXXXX indicates the language. 2 Press SUBTITLE again to view the next available language. Repeating a disc To repeat all or part of a disc: 1 Press REPEAT to repeat a chapter. 2 Press REPEAT again to repeat a title. 3 Press REPEAT again to repeat the entire DVD. To repeat a part of a disc you specify: 1 Press A-B to select the start point. 2 Press A-B to select the end point. Note To cancel the repeat, press A-B again. Starting play at a specific location To start play at a specific program: 1 Press PROGRAM. 2 Use the numeric pad to enter the starting chapter number. 3 Move the cursor to select START. To start play at a specific time: 1 Press SEARCH. The screen displays Disc Go To --:--. 2 Use the numeric pad to enter the start time. To start play at a specific track time: 1 Press SEARCH twice. The screen displays Track Go To --:--. 2 Use the numeric pad to enter the track time. Insignia NS-13CTV TV/DVD Combo To start play at a specific track: 1 Press SEARCH three times. The screen displays Track --/03. 2 Use the numeric pad to enter the track number. Using other disc features Using your remote control you can use these other advanced features: Feature Description Angle Press ANGLE to view the scene from a different camera angle. This feature isavailable only on pre-recorded DVDs withmultiple camera angles. Audio Press AUDIO to change the audio mode. You can select from: • Mono Left • Mono Right•Mix-Mono •Stereo Disc Call Press D.CALL to view information about the DVD that is currently playing. You can view: •Title Elapsed• Title Remaining • Chapter Elapsed • Chapter Remaining • Display off Disc Menu Press D.MENU to access the DVD root menu. This feature is available only onpre-recorded DVDs with a multi-layer menu. Title Menu Press TITLE/PBC to display the title menu. Use the numeric pad to select an item. Playing JPEG discs The JPEG (.jpg) format is a method of storing images in a small amount of memory space and is ideal for archiving pictures.
