26-527 Compact Desktop Crosscut Paper Shredder Your RadioShack Shredder is convenient and easy to use. The shredder’s compact design makes it perfect for your home or office. Its features include: 41 /2-Inch Paper Slot — you can easily insert folded sheets of paper into the shredder, letting you quickly and easily destroy them. High-Capacity Mechanism — you can shred up to three folded sheets of paper at once. Cross-Cut Shredding — the shredder cuts paper lengthwise and crosswise into pieces no larger than 1/8-inch by 11/4-inch, reducing the volume of shredded paper. High-Capacity Waste Receptacle — holds up to 30 shredded pages. The waste receptacle is clear, letting you easily see when it is time to empty it. Powerful 1/8-Horsepower Motor — smoothly shreds as much as 12 feet of paper per minute. Automatic Shred Cycle — the shredder automatically turns on when you insert paper. Rev/Stop/Auto Switch — lets you reverse the shredder if it becomes jammed, stop the shredder, and set the shredder to its automatic cycle. This device has been tested and found to comply with all applicable ETL standards. WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or shock hazard, do not expose this product to rain or moisture. Important Safety Instructions • This shredder is designed to shred up to 20-pound thickness bond paper only. Do not use the shredder to shred heavier paper. • Be sure to remove objects such as staples, paper clips, rubber bands, vinyl, or plastic from paper before shredding it. © 2000 Tandy Corporation. RadioShack is a registered trademark used by Tandy Corporation. • Do not shred more than three folded sheets of paper at a time. • Do not shred wet paper or carbon paper. • To avoid serious injury, keep hair, neckties, jewelry, and fingers out of the shredder’s paper slot. • The shredder automatically stops if it has been continuously running for a long time. This is not a malfunction. If you were shredding when the shredder automatically stopped, let the shredder cool for about 20 minutes before using it again. Caution: If the shredder stops and the waste receptacle is full, do not hold down Rev/Stop/Auto. Empty the waste receptacle first, then hold down Rev/Stop/Auto toward Rev to clear any unshredded paper. • Always turn off then unplug the shredder before moving or cleaning it. • Do not attempt to repair the shredder by yourself. Contact your local RadioShack store for help. • Never use the shredder if it has been dropped or the housing has been damaged. CHOOSING A LOCATION Choose a location for your shredder that is within 6 feet of a standard AC outlet and out of the way of normal activity. Warnings: • Never place the shredder near or over heat or water sources. • Keep the shredder out of the reach of children. INSTALLATION 1. Remove the upper part of the shredder from the waste receptacle. 2. Place the waste receptacle on a flat surface. 3. Place the shredder on the waste receptacle and make sure the shredder is securely seated. 4. Plug the shredder’s power cord into a standard AC outlet. OPERATION 1. Fold the paper you want to shred lengthwise so it is slightly narrower than the paper slot. 2. Set Rev/Stop/Auto to Auto. The shredder automatically turns on and shreds when paper is fed into the paper slot, then stops when the paper is shredded. When the waste receptacle is full or if you lift the shredder off of the waste receptacle, the shredder automatically turns off. To resume shredding, empty the shred from the waste receptacle then replace the shredder on the waste receptacle. CLEARING A PAPER JAM The shredder might jam if: • you try to shred more than three folded sheets of paper at a time • the paper fed into the shredder is wider than the paper slot • the paper fed into the shredder is not fed firmly into the paper slot If the paper jams, empty the waste receptacle if it is full, then hold down Rev/ Stop/Auto toward Rev. The shredder reverses, freeing the jam. Pull the jammed paper out of the slot, then set Rev/Stop/ Auto to Stop. CARE To enjoy your shredder for a long time: • Keep the shredder dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. • Use and store the shredder only in normal temperature environments. • Handle the shredder gently and carefully. Do not drop it. • Keep the shredder away from dust and dirt. • Wipe the shredder with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Modifying or tampering with the s...
