Attach the spark plug cap. 36 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER CLUTCH CABLE ADJUSTMENT There should be 0.59-0.79 inches (15-20 mm) of free play at the lever end. If lever adjustment is incorrect, loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting bolt in or out just enough to eliminate free play. Do not overtighten. THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT Measure the free play at the lever tip. Free play : 0.20 - 0.39 in (5 - 10 mm) If the free play is incorrect, turn the adjusting nut in or out as required. (5 - 10mm) 37 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT 1. Adjust the clutch cable (page 39). Remove the belt cover, and pinch the upper and lower parts of the belt together with both hands five or six times. Belt tension is correct when the distance form the top of the belt to the top of the tension roller is 1.65-1.77 in (42-45 mm) when the clutch is engaged. 2. To adjust, loosen the four engine mounting bolts and the belt stopper attaching two bolts (front side) and move the engine forward or backward to get proper tension on the belt. 1.65-1.77m (42 -45mm) ENGINE MOUNTING BOL1 BELT STOPPER ATTACHING BOLTS 38 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER During adjustment, line up the groove of the engine-side pully and thet of the transmission-side pulley. If they are not aligned, the belt may come off or will wear prematurely. ///////////////////// ENGINE-SIDE PULLEY TRANSMISSION-SIDE PULLEY 3. Loosen the belt stopper attaching bolts. Adjust the clearance between the belt stopper and the belt as illustrated with the clutch lever squeezed. 39 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK CABLE ADJUSTMENT (FR750 only) Measure the free play at the lever end with the differential lock in the UNLOCK position. Free play: 0.04 - 0.16 in (1 - 4 mm) If the free play is incorrect, turn the adjusting nut in or out as required. DIFFERENTIAL LOCK LEVER 40 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER SEDIMENT CUP CLEANING 1. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position. 2. Remove the sediment cup with a 10 mm wrench. 3. Empty the sediment cup, and wash it in nonflammable solvent. 4. Inspect and reinstall the O-ring. Replace the O-ring if it is damaged. 5. Install the sediment cup, and tighten it securely. 6. Turn the fuel valve to the ON position, and check for leaks. Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. You can be burned or seriously injured when handling fuel. • Stop the engine and keep heat, sparks, and flame away. • Refuel only outdoors. • Wipe up spills immediately. 41 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER SPARK ARRESTER SERVICE Your engine is not factory-equipped with a spark arrester. In some areas, it is illegal to operate an engine without a spark arrester. Check local laws and regulations. A spark arrester is available from Honda servicing dealers. The spark arrester must be serviced every 100 hours to keep it functioning as designed. If the engine has been running, the muffler will be very hot. Allow the muffler to cool before servicing the spark arrester. 1. Remove the two 8 mm nuts and remove the muffler from the cylinder. 2. Remove the two 4 mm screws from the muffler deflector, and remove the muffler deflector and muffler guide. 3. Remove the four 5 mm screws from the muffler protector, and remove the muffler protector. 4. Remove the special screw from the apark arrester, and remove the spark arrester from the muffler. 5mm SCREWS MUFFLER PROTE( MUFFLE 42 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER 3. Use a brush to remove carbon deposits from the spark arrester screen. Be careful to avoid damaging the screen. The spark arrester must be free of breaks and holes. Replace the spark arrester if it is damaged. SPARK ARRESTER SCREEN 4. Install the spark arrester and muffler protector, in the reverse order of disassembly. 43 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER TIRE PRESSURE CHECK Check the tire pressure. Improper inflation can reduce both tire life and load carrying capacity. Make sure the clevis pin and lock pin are securely installed. Tire size: 3.50-7 Tire pressure: 120 kPa (1.2 kg/cm2,17.1 psi) LOCK PIN 44 SERVICING YOUR HONDA TILLER TINES AND FASTENERS CHECK Be sure to check the tightness of fasteners at the following places: • Tine cover and transmission case 45 STORAGE STORAGE PREPARATION Proper storage preparation is essential for keeping your tiller trouble free and looking good. The following steps will help to keep rust and corrosion from impairing your tiller’s function and appearance, and will make the engine easier to start when you use tiller again. Cleaning 1. Wash the tiller, including the underside. Engine Wash the engine by hand, and be careful to prevent water from entering the air cleaner.
