Set-up location requirements For safe and fault free operation of the device the set-up location must comply with the following provisions: ¦ Place the device on a firm, flat and even surface. ¦ Place the device so that the ventilation slots are not covered. ¦ Do not place the device in a hot, wet or very humid location or in the vicinity of flammable materials. ¦ The surfaces of furniture may contain components that can affect the rubber feet of the device and could soften them. If necessary place a pad under the device's rubber feet. ¦ The wall socket must be easily accessible so that, in an emergency, the plug can be quickly withdrawn from the socket. Electrical connection ¦ Before connecting the device compare the connection data (Voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with that of the mains electric source. This data must be compatible to avoid possible damage to the device. ¦ Make sure that the device's connection cord is not damaged and is not laying over hot surfaces and/or sharp edges. ¦ Make sure that the connection cord is not tightly stretched or bent. ¦ Do not allow the connection cord to hang over edges (Trip wire effect). KH 2420 9 Setting up and connecting GB IE CY Inserting the batteries By inserting the batteries you can avoid the loss of programmed time of day and alarm wake time in the event of a possible power outage. The batteries make sure that the internal clock continues to run even during a power outage. When power is restored the correct time appears automatically in the display 5. NOTICE > Display, Radio, CD player and alarm do not function in emergency operation. • Open the cover of the battery compartment 29 on the bottom of the device. • Insert 2 batteries type AA/LR6/Mignon (supplied) into the battery compartment. Make sure that you observe the polarity as depicted in the battery compartment. • Close the battery compartment by replacing the cover and allowing it to lock into place. Assembling the pedestal You can set the device up with or without the pedestal 26. For assembly of the pedestal proceed as follows: • Insert the pedestal into the receptacle 30 on the bottom of the device. • To lock the pedestal turn it counter clockwise. • To unlock the pedestal (disassembly) turn it in a clockwise direction. Providing mains power • Connect the connection cord to the mains power connection 27 on the rear panel of the device. • Plug the mains power plug into a wall socket. The time of day will be shown in the display 5 (0:00 o'clock). USW wire antenna • For USW reception completely unfold the wire antenna 28. 10 KH 2420 Handling and operation GB IE CY Connecting an external speaker • If required you can connect an additional external speaker (with a 3.5 mm jackplug) to the speaker connections 24 on the rear panel of the device. Connecting the headphones • If required you can connect headphones (with a 3.5 mm jackplug) to the headphone connection 23 on the rear panel of the device. The speakers then switch off automatically. Handling and operation In this chapter you receive important information for the handling and operation of the device. Switching On and Off • Press the POWER/AL.OFF button to switch the device on. The POWER/ST. LED 7 lights up green and the display 5 is activated. • Press the POWER/AL.OFF button to switch the device off. The POWER/ST. LED 7 goes out and in the display 5 is shown the time of day and a programmed alarm time. Setting the time In order to set the time of day the device must be switched off. • Press the TIME SET button 4 . The time indicator in the display 5 blinks. • Press the SKIP+/HOUR button 14 to set the hours. • Press the SKIP-/MIN button 13 to set the minutes. • Press the TIME SET button or wait for approx. 10 seconds to confirm the time input. The time indicator stops blinking. NOTICE > The time of day will reset to 0:00 if the device is disconnected from the power source and no batteries have been inserted. KH 2420 11 99 Handling and operation GB IE CY Setting the display illumination • Press the DIMMER button 11 to set the display illumination. Setting options: Bright/Dimmed/Off Adjusting the volume. • With the VOLUME controller 18 set the desired sound level. Automatic switch off ("SLEEP" function) With the "Sleep" function the device switches itself off after a time lapse of between 10 and 90 minutes. • Switch the device on and select the desired mode with the AUX/RADIO/CD switch 19. • Press the SLEEP button repeatedly to set the desired time. Setting options: 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 or 10 minutes. After three seconds the selected setting is saved. • Press the SLEEP button 9 again to switch off the "Sleep" function. Programming alarm wake times When programming the alarm wake time you can select whether, at the programmed time, an alarm tone should sound or the radio or CD player should start playing.
