It can be set to work directly with long-distance or certain other services that require tone signaling including some tone activated computer systems. 1 INSTALLATION TABLE/DESK INSTALLATION This telephone includes a 7-foot line cord with a modular plug on each end. You’ll use this cord to connect the telephone to a modular jack. 1. Connect line cord to telephone Plug the long line cord into the jack on the underside of the telephone base. Then feed the line cord through the channel provided so the telephone sits flat on your table or desk during use. 2. Set Dial Mode switch This product comes set in the TONE mode. Make sure you choose the correct dialing method (TONE/PULSE); touch tone dialing will not work if you have dial pulse service. 3. Connect handset to base Plug one end of the coiled cord into the handset, and the other end into the telephone base. Then hang up. 4. Connect line cord to modular jack Plug the free end of the line cord into a modular jack. Make sure it snaps firmly in place. 5. Check for dial tone Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. If you can’t hear a dial tone, refer to “In Case of Difficulty” and try to correct the problem. TO DISCONNECT the telephone, squeeze the clip on the modular plug and pull it out of the jack. 2 INSTALLATION WALL INSTALLATION 1. Reverse the handset tab. When mounting the telephone on a wall, you must reverse the handset tab. This tab holds the handset when you hang up. Hold down the switchhook, and slide the tab up and out of its slot (Figure 1). Turn the tab so that the end with the “hook” is up (Figure 2). Then insert the tab back into its slot (Figure 3). Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3 2. Fill in directory card The enclosed directory card has an adhesive backing which lets you place it in a convenient location near the telephone. Write in your own telephone number and up to nine other numbers you want to remember on the directory card. 3. Plug the line cord into the jack on the underside of the base Feed the short line cord into the channel. Feed the last portion (as short as possible), through one of the slots in the mounting area. 4. Install telephone base on wall jack Hold the base up next to the wall jack and plug in the line cord. Then push the base against the wall jack and down until it is held securely by the mounting studs. 3 INSTALLATION 5. Set the Dial Mode switch This product comes set in the TONE mode. Make sure you choose the correct dialing method (TONE/PULSE); touch tone dialing will not work if you have dial pulse service. 6. Connect handset to telephone base Connect one end of the coiled handset cord to the base. Plug the other end into the handset. Then hang up the phone. 7. Check for dial tone Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. If you can’t hear a dial tone, refer to “In Case of Difficulty” and try to correct the problem. Line Jack Handset Jack Wall Jack Figure 4 NOTE: If you cannot fit the base onto the wall jack plate, remove the top two non-slip feet. 4 OPERATION Redial The telephone always stores in memory the last number dialed. To dial the same number again, lift the handset, and press . The redial memory can accept numbers up to 32 digits long. The number will remain in memory until you change it by dialing another telephone number. For privacy, you can erase the redial memory. Lift the handset, then press any digit (1-9). Flash Press FLASH instead of pressing the switchhook to activate customer calling services such as call waiting or three-way calling. You may have to press other buttons before or after as explained in custom calling instructions provided by your local telephone company. Ringer Volume The RINGER volume switch allows you to adjust the loudness of the telephone ringer from OFF to LO to HI. Slide the switch to the desired volume level. Receiver (Handset) Volume The Receiver volume switch on the left side of the base has three positions which allow you to adjust the loudness of your call from NORMAL to LOUD. Slide the switch to the desired volume level. Temporary Tone Temporary tone dialing is used only when you have rotary service. It allows you access to services that require tone signaling, including some tone-activated computer systems (e.g., telephone banking). To change from pulse (rotary) to tone dialing during a call: 1.
