System/Security Patch Requirements
The system administrator of vCenter Server is required for plug-in registration. For VMware vCenter
Server patch requirements, refer to VMware’s release notes for vCenter Server.
3PAR Management Plug-In and Recovery Manager for VMware
vSphere Requirements

• 3PAR Management Plug-In and Recovery Manager for VMware vSphere requires snapshot
area for each volume that needs to be backed up. Snapshot space for a new virtual volume
must be manually allocated, either as a static percentage of the base virtual volume or
configured to auto-grow on-demand as required by changed data blocks. This is
accomplished by mapping the snapshot space to a Common Provisioning Group (CPG). Refer
to the 3PAR InForm OS Concepts Guide, 3PAR InForm OS CLI Administrator’s Manual, and
3PAR InForm Management Console Online Help for detailed information on virtual copies
and allocation methods for snapshot space of a virtual volume.
• Admin privileges are required to access the Administration tool, Host Explorer and the
scheduler.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer should be defined as the default web browser in the VI client
machine in order for Virtual Copy operations to function properly.
• VMware Tools must be installed on the Guest OS in order to successfully create virtual
copies.
What’s New in 3PAR Management Plug-In for VMware vCenter
• Access to the Host Explorer application is now included. Host Explorer communicates with
the storage server over an FC or iSCSI connection and provides detailed host configuration
information. You can start the service and configure settings through the Host Explorer tab
available from the RMVMware Admin Tool GUI interface.
• Centralized credential management for granting permissions for virtual copy creation, Host
Explorer access and the scheduling of virtual copies is provided.
What’s New in 3PAR Recovery Manager for VMware vSphere
• Virtual copies can now be created that are set to expire according to a specified length of
time through settings available from the Policy tab. Virtual copies created with this option
are not affected by the maximum count that governs the removal of non-expirable virtual
copies. When enabling expirable virtual copies, you also have the choice of specifying how
existing non-expirable copies are handled to accommodate the mixed use of expirable and
non-expirable copies and to help in the process of phasing out non-expirable copies created
with earlier versions of the product.
