9 UK INTRODUCTION To get the best out of your new popcorn maker, please read this user guide before using it for the first time. We also recommend that you keep the instructions for future reference, so that you can remind yourself of the functions of your popcorn maker. SAFETY MEASURES Normal use of the popcorn maker • Incorrect use of the popcorn maker may cause personal injury and damage to the appliance. • Use the popcorn maker for its intended purpose only. The manufacturer is not responsible for any injury or damage resulting from incorrect use or handling (see also Guarantee Terms). • For connection to 230 V, 50 Hz only. • Do not immerse the appliance or cord in water or other fluids when connected to the mains. • Do not open the cabinet or insert objects into it, as this may result in electric shock or damage to the popcorn maker. • Never touch the popcorn maker or its plug with wet hands. Do not use the appliance in damp environments. • Never leave the popcorn maker unattended when in use and keep an eye on children. • Never switch the popcorn maker on unless it has popping corn in it. • NB! THE POPCORN MAKER GETS VERY HOT DURING USE. Always use a potholder or oven gloves to avoid burns when handling the popcorn maker, and let it cool down before you remove the top of the machine or clean it. • Unpopped kernels may bounce out of the opening during use, so keep your face, eyes and unprotected parts of the body at a safe distance. • Not suitable for commercial, industrial or outdoor use. Positioning the popcorn maker • Place the popcorn maker on a flat, stable and non-flammable surface out of the reach of children. • Always place the popcorn maker at a safe distance from flammable objects such as curtains, tablecloths or similar. • Do not cover the popcorn maker. • Do not allow the cord to hang over the edge of a table/counter, and keep it away from hot objects and naked flames. Cord, plug and mains socket • Check regularly that neither the cord nor plug is damaged and do not use the popcorn maker if damage is evident, or if it has been dropped or damaged in any other way. • If the appliance, cord or plug is damaged, the appliance must be inspected and, if necessary, repaired by an authorised repair engineer, otherwise there is a risk of electric shock. Never attempt to repair the appliance yourself. • Always turn the appliance off using the on/off button, and unplug it, when it is not in use or before cleaning. • Avoid pulling the cord when removing the plug from the socket. PRIOR TO FIRST USE Before using the popcorn maker for the first time, remove all packaging and clean the appliance as described in “Cleaning”. USE The popcorn maker pops the corn using hot air. Therefore you should never use microwave popcorn or ready-mixed packs of popping corn containing oil/fat in this appliance. Never place oil/fat, salt or anything else in the popper with the corn. • Place the upper section (3) on the base (6), so the opening (5) is opposite the side with the on/off button (7). • Fill the measuring cup (1) with popping corn (approx. 40 g). • Pour the corn through the filling funnel (2), so it falls down into the popper (4). 10 • Place the measuring cup in the funnel, where it acts as a lid. • Place a bowl under the opening for the popped corn to fall into. • Plug the appliance in and switch it on using the on/off button (position I). After a few minutes the first kernels will begin to pop. • Switch off using the on/off button (position 0) once all the corn has popped. • Sprinkle salt on the corn in the bowl and serve while still hot. NB! Never pour more than 1 cupful of corn into the machine at a time, as the kernels may get burnt onto internal surfaces. NB! Do not leave the popcorn maker running for more than 4 minutes at a time. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes after popping two portions of popcorn. CLEANING • Switch the popcorn maker off, allow it to cool completely and remove the plug from the socket before cleaning. • Never use scouring powder, steel scourers or other strong cleaning agents to clean the interior or exterior surfaces of the popcorn maker, as they may scratch the surfaces. • The popcorn maker must not be immersed in water or any other liquid. • Wipe the exterior with a well-wrung cloth using hot water and a little detergent, if required. • Wipe the popper using a well-wrung cloth and hot water. Wipe off thoroughly with a dry cloth. • The measuring cup and upper section can be washed in hot water and a little detergent. • Ensure all parts are completely dry before replacing them and using the popcorn maker again. • Always clean the popcorn maker before putting it away if it is not to be used for a prolonged period.
