2). Only fill the water tank with water. Never put seasoning, oil, or other substances in the water tank. 3 Place the drip tray on the water tank in the base (Fig. 3). Never use the appliance without the drip tray. 4 If desired, put dried or fresh herbs or spices on the flavour booster to add extra flavour to the food to be steamed (Fig. 4). Thyme, coriander, basil, dill, curr y and tarragon are some of the exciting herbs and spices that you can put on the flavour booster.You can combine them with garlic, caraway or horseradish to enhance flavour without adding salt. We advise you to use 1/2 to 3tsp of dried herbs or spices. Use more if you use fresh herbs or spices. For suggested herbs or spices for various types of food, see the food steaming table in chapter ‘Food table and steaming tips’. Tip: If you use ground herbs or spices, rinse the drip tray to wet the flavour booster.This prevents ground herbs or spices from falling through the openings of the flavour booster (Fig. 5). 5 Put the food to be steamed in one or more steaming bowls and/or in the XL steaming bowl (see section ‘XL steaming bowl’ below). Tip: Put eggs on the egg holders to steam eggs conveniently (Fig. 6). -The steaming bowls are numbered.You find the number on the handle.The top steaming bowl is no. 3,The middle steaming bowl is no. 2 and the bottom steaming bowl is no. 1. 6 7 8 Place larger pieces of food and food that require a longer steaming time in the bottom steaming bowl. Arrange the food with ample space between the pieces to allow maximum steam flow. Do not put too much food in the steaming bowls. Put one or more steaming bowls on the drip tray. (Fig. 7) Note: Make sure you place the bowls properly and that they do not wobble. -You do not have to use all 3 steaming bowls. -Only stack the steaming bowls in the following order : steaming bowl 1, steaming bowl 2, steaming bowl 3. -If you use steaming bowls 2 and 3 with their removable bottoms, always make sure that the rim of the bottom points upwards and that the bottom locks into place (‘click’) (Fig. 8). -If you have removed the bottom of steaming bowl 2 only, you can still place steaming bowl 3 on top. -If you want to steam large-size food (e.g. corn cobs or yams), you can remove the bottoms from steaming bowls 2 and/or 3 to maximise the steaming space (Fig. 9). 9 Put the lid on the top steaming bowl (Fig. 10). Note: If the lid is not placed on the steaming bowl properly or at all, the food is not steamed properly. Xl steaming bowl The XL steaming bowl is intended for soup, stew, porridge and rice, and other food that is not suitable for steaming in the other steaming bowls. You can use the XL steaming bowl in the following combinations: EnglisH 9 -Bowls 1 and 2 or bowls 2 and 3 (Fig. 11). -Bowls 1, 2 and 3. (Fig. 12) Note:The XL steaming bowl cannot be placed on top of steaming bowl 1 as it does not provide sufficient space. 2 Before you place the XL steaming bowl on top of bowl 2 or 3, you need to remove the bottoms from steaming bowls 2 or 3. Put the food with the longest steaming time in bowl 1. Steam until the remaining steaming time on the display is equal to the shorter steaming time.Then carefully remove the lid with oven mitts and place bowl 2 containing the ingredients with the shorter steaming time on top of bowl 1. Put the lid on bowl 2 and continue steaming until the set steaming time has elapsed. Note: Food in the top bowl usually takes a little longer to steam than food in the lower bowls. 4 5 If you steam large quantities of food, stir the food halfway through the steaming process. Wear oven mitts and use a kitchen utensil with a long handle. Carefully remove the lid. Beware of hot steam that comes out of the appliance when you remove the lid.
