Back to Contents Page Optical Drive Dell™ Inspiron™ 1210 Service Manual Removing the Optical Drive Replacing the Optical Drive Removing the Optical Drive 1. Follow the procedures in Before You Begin. 2. Remove the display assembly (see Replacing the Display). 3. Remove the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard). 4. Remove the palm rest (see Replacing the Palm Rest). 5. Remove the four M2 x 3-mm screws that secure the optical drive to the computer base. 6. Lift the optical drive out of the computer base. 7. Pull the connector away from the back of the optical drive. Replacing the Optical Drive 1. Attach the connector to the back of the optical drive. 2. Replace the optical drive and the four M2 x 3-mm screws that secure the optical drive to the computer base. 3. Replace the palm rest (see Replacing the Palm Rest). 4. Replace the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard). 5. Replace the display assembly (see Replacing the Display). 6. Slide the battery into the battery bay, until it clicks into place. CAUTION: Before performing the following procedures, follow the safety instructions shipped with your computer. NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as the back panel) on the computer. 1 M2 x 3-mm screws (4) 2 optical drive Back to Contents Page Back to Contents Page Replacing the Palm Rest Dell™ Inspiron™ 1210 Service Manual 1. Follow the instructions in Before You Begin. 2. Remove the hinge cover. See Follow the procedures in "Before You Begin" on page 9.. 3. Remove the keyboard. See Replacing the Keyboard. 4. Loosen the 16 M2.5x 5-mm screws on the base cover. 5. Disconnect the antenna cables from the Mini-Card(s). 6. Make note of the cable routing and carefully dislodge the antenna cables and the display cable from their routing guides. Pull the cables away, so that they are clear of the palm rest. CAUTION: Before working inside your computer, read the safety information that shipped with your computer. For additional safety best practices information, see the Regulatory Compliance Homepage at NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as the back panel) on the computer. NOTICE: When you disconnect a cable, pull on its connector or on its pull-tab, not on the cable itself. Some cables have connectors with locking tabs; if you are disconnecting this type of cable, press in on the locking tabs before you disconnect the cable. As you pull connectors apart, keep them evenly aligned to avoid bending any connector pins. Also, before you connect a cable, ensure that both connectors are correctly oriented and aligned. 1 antenna cables (2) 2 display cable 7. Disconnect the Bluetooth card cable, touch pad cable, the power button board cable, and speaker cable from the respective system board connectors. 8. Starting at the top of the palm rest, use your fingers to separate the palm rest from the computer base by lifting the inside of the palm rest while pushing in on the outside. 9. To replace the palm rest, route the antenna cables and display cable along the routing guides. 10. Connect the antenna cables to the Mini-Card. 11. Connect the Bluetooth card cable, touch pad cable, the power button cable, and speaker cable to the respective system board connectors. 12. Align the palm rest with the computer base and gently snap it into place. 13. Turn the computer over and replace the 16 M2.5x 5-mm screws on the computer base. 14. Replace the keyboard. See Replacing the Keyboard. 15. Replace the hinge cover. See Follow the procedures in "Before You Begin" on page 9.. 16. Slide the battery into the battery bay, until it clicks in place and slide the battery-lock latch towards the lock position.
