CAUTION: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer). CAUTION: To help prevent damage to the system board, remove the main battery (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 11) before working inside the computer. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the display, you must not disassemble your Edge-to-Edge display assembly in the field. Display Assembly Removing the Display Assembly Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6. Remove the battery pack (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 2. 11). Remove the compartment door (see “Removing the Compartment Door” on 3. page 14). Remove the hard drive (see “Removing the Hard Drive” on page 4. 17). Remove the memory module(s) (see “Removing the Memory Module(s)” on 5. page 21). Remove the center control cover (see “Removing the Center Control Cover” 6. on page 30). Remove the keyboard (see “Removing the Keyboard” on page 7. 34). Remove the palm rest (see “Removing the Palm Rest” on page 8. 38). Remove the two screws from the battery bay.9. Turn the computer top side up and open the display as far as possible.10. Disconnect the antenna cables from the respective Mini-Cards and remove 11. these cables from their routing guides. Disconnect the display cable and the camera cable from the respective 12. system board connectors, and remove these cables from their routing guides. 123 1 Mini-Card antenna cables 3 display cable connector 2 camera cable connector Remove the four screws (two from each hinge) that secure the display 13. assembly to the computer base. Tilt the display assembly towards the computer base at a 45-degree angle 14. and lift the display assembly off the computer. 12 1 display assembly 2 screws (4) Replacing the Display Assembly Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6. Align the screw holes on the display hinges with the screw holes on the 2. computer base. Replace the four screws (two on each hinge) that secure the display 3. assembly to the computer base. Route the Mini-Card antenna cables through the routing guides and 4. connect them to the respective Mini-Cards. Route the display and camera cables through the routing guides and 5. connect them to the system board connectors. Replace the two screws in the battery bay.6. Replace the palm rest (see “Replacing the Palm Rest” on page 7. 39). Replace the keyboard (see “Replacing the Keyboard” on page 8. 35). Replace the center control cover (see “Replacing the Center Control Cover” 9. on page 31). Replace the memory module(s) (see “Replacing the Memory Module(s)” on 10. page 23). Route the antenna, display, and camera cables through the display hinge 2. cover. Align the screw holes on the display hinge cover with the display back cover.3.
