9 Carefully remove the new memory module from its antistatic packaging, without touching its connector. 10 Locate an empty memory module slot on the underside of the computer. 56 NOTE Getting Started Adding memory (optional) If no memory slot is available, you must remove a module by performing steps 2-3 of “Removing a memory module” on page 59. NOTE If your system has the memory modules stacked on top of one another, you must remove the top module first before removing/installing the bottom module. Pick up the memory module by its sides, avoiding any contact with its connector. (Sample Illustration) Inserting the memory module into the socket 13 Once the module’s connector is fully inserted into the socket, press downward on the top edge of the module to seat the module into the latches at the sides of the socket. These latches should “snap” into place securely with the corresponding cutouts in the side of the module. If only one memory module is to be installed, it must be installed in Slot A. 14 Replace the memory module slot cover and secure it using the screws. 15 Re-insert the main battery. For more information on inserting the main battery, see “Inserting a charged battery” on page 130. 16 Turn the computer right side up. Make sure to remove the soft cloth from the work surface before restarting the computer. Always make sure your computer and AC adaptor have adequate ventilation and are protected from overheating when the power is turned on or when an AC adaptor is connected to a power outlet (even if your computer is in Sleep mode). In this condition, observe the following: . Never cover your computer or AC adaptor with any object. . Never place your computer or AC adaptor near a heat source, such as an electric blanket or heater. . Never cover or block the air vents including those located at the underside of the computer. .
