By connecting your peripheral devices to the port replicator, you can save yourself the trouble of having to connect and disconnect several cables every time you transport the computer. ^Checking the Equipment □ PORT REPLICATOR (with expansion bus connector protective cap) E OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (this book) If any of the items listed above are missing, or if they differ from the model you purchased, consult your nearest Panasonic dealer. ^ - 4 • Microsoft, MS-DOS and Windows arc either registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries. 3 Names and Functions of Parts The port replicator is equipped with the same connection terminals as the computer (with the exception of the headphone jack, audio-in jack, and infrared communication port). It allows your peripheral devices to function exactly as if they were connected directly to the computer. (Refer to “Names and Functions of Parts” in the “Operating Instructions” accompanying the computer.) fpC Card Eject Buttons] [ PC Card Slots] ( Parallel Port (Serial Port) (Display Port) External Mouse Port) ( Security Lock ) DC-IN Connector) ( External Keyboard Port) Front/Right Side [ Cap Holder The protective cap from the expansion bus connector should be placed here when the port replicator is connected to the computer. This functions as a ventilation opening when the port replicator is connected to the computer. Do not obstruct the airflow by placing objects on top of it. _ Expansion Bus Connector] This connects to the expansion bus connector on the bottom of the computer. Be sure to keep it covered with the supplied protective cap when the port replicator is not connected to the computer. Expansion Bus Connector Protective Cap {accompanying the port replicator) Lever) Pull up on the lever to release the computer. 4 PC Card PC Card Eject Buttons PC cards conforming to the PC Card standard can be installed in the port replicator. The types of cards that can be inserted into the slots as well as the installation and removal methods are the same as for the PC Card slots of the computer. Four cards may be installed at the same time, one in each slot of the computer and port replicator. • CardBus type PC Cards cannot be used in the PC Card slots of the port replicator. When the port replicator is connected to your computer and a total of three or more PC Cards are being used, deactivate unnecessary equipment using [Supervisor Setup] in the Setup Utility. ♦CAUTIONS • SRAM and FLASH ROM cards are not supported. • When using a CardBus type card for PC Card slot of the computer, use only that card; do not insert any other PC Cards. • When first purchased, dummy cards* are mounted in the PC Card slots. To set PC Cards, first remove the dummy cards. (The procedure for removing a dummy card is the same as that for a PC Card.) • Dummy cards are mounted in the slots to prevent dust or foreign matter from getting inside the port replicator. Make sure a dummy card is mounted in each slot that does not contain a PC Card. 5 Connecting/Disconnecting the Port Replicator Before Connecting and Disconnecting the Port Replicator Make sure to power off the computer. ♦CAUTION# • The port replicator can only be used when the AC adapter is connected. It cannot be used with the battery pack mounted on the computer as the only power source. (No power is supplied in this case.) Note that if power is interrupted or if the AC adapter is unplugged accidentally while the port replicator is in use, the power supply to the computer will be cut off and data will be lost, regardless of the current suspend or hibernation mode settings. • Do not connect or disconnect the port replicator while the computer is powered on or in the suspend or hibernation mode. Doing so could cause seriously damage your computer. Connecting the Port Replicator _ Connect the plug of the AC adapter (CF-AA159) that came with the computer to the DC-IN jack of the port replicator and plug the other end into an AC outlet. (The AC adapter (CF-AA159) may also be purchased as an optional part.) ♦CAUTIONS • Do not use other than the specified AC adapter (CF-AA159). • Refer to the “Operating Instructions” that came with the computer for information on proper handling of the AC adapter and AC cord. • Before unplugging the AC adapter, make sure to power off the computer. 4 Remove the expansion bus connector protective cap and place it in the cap holder to prevent it from getting lost.
