manual abstract

Surge Cymbals are compatible with a variety of drum modules and can also be used to trigger sounds on any MIDI instrument using a “ Trigger to MIDI” interface. 1. Insert two .” stereo cables ( included) into the two connections in the trigger housing on the underside of the cymbal. 2. Place the cymbal onto a cymbal stand. Do not use a cymbal sleeve with this cymbal since it already has a built- in sleeve. Be sure the Choke Strip on the underside of the cymbal is on the side closest to you. 3. Connect the other ends of the cables to your drum module. The Surge Ride Cymbal is a dual- zone cymbal. You can strike it on the “ bow” of the cymbal or on the bell of the cymbal to produce two different sounds. Note that this cymbal has two connections in the trigger housing on its underside. Both of these must be correctly connected to your drum module if you want both of them to trigger. You may need to adjust the Crosstalk settings of your sound or trigger module to prevent accidental triggering of sounds on either zone. Depending on the module you are using, this cymbal may feature triple- zone triggering, allowing you to produce the additional sound of “ crash- riding” by striking the edge of the cymbal. Visit for a list of compatible drum modules that allow this feature. When playing the Surge Ride Cymbal, you may use the Choke Strip that causes the sound to be stopped ( emulating the sound of a ringing cymbal silenced by grabbing its edge) . The Choke Strip is located on the underside of the cymbal. Simply grasp the edge of the cymbal with your hand after striking it. Check the instructions of your module to enable the choke function with this cymbal ( you may need to assign a note number to the choke message) . Visit for a list of compatible drum modules that allow this feature. Visit http:/ / alesis.com for more information about Surge Cymbals and other Alesis products.
