The color keys for this product do not have any function. Other books have their own color key functions, which are labelled on their cartridges and listed in their User’s Guides. Read “Using the Color Keys” in other BOOKMAN products for more information. Other Keys BACK Backs up or erases letters. ENTER Selects a menu item. HELP Shows help messages. DNSPACE Pages down. ? ] Shows full menu name. Direction Keys Move in indicated direction. UP Pages up or down. Star Key Combinations* I From within a stock entry, goes to the next stock entry. + DN I From within a stock entry, goes to the previous stock entry. + UP *Hold I while pressing the other key. 2 Installing CartridgesSelecting Books Warning: Never install or remove a cartridge when BOOKMAN is on. If you do, information that you entered in its built-in book, and in an installed cartridge, will be erased. 1. Turn BOOKMAN off. 2. Turn BOOKMAN over. 3. Align the tabs on the cartridge with the notches in the slot. 4. Press the cartridge down until it snaps into place. a Removing Cartridges Warning: When you remove a cartridge to install another, information that you entered into the removed cartridge will be erased. Once you have installed a cartridge in your BOOKMAN, you must select which book you want to use. 1. Turn BOOKMAN on. CARD 2. Press . These are sample books. 3. Press or to highlight the book you want to use. ENTER 4. Press to select it. a About Screen Illustrations Some screen illustrations in this User’s Guide may differ from what you see on the actual screen. This does not mean that your BOOKMAN is malfunctioning. 3 Changing Settings Viewing a Demonstration You can adjust both the font and the screen contrast. The font changes the number of lines of text that appear on screen. The screen contrast determines how dark the screen appears. CLEAR 1. Press . 2. Press twice to highlight the Other menu. 3. Press or to highlight Select Font or Set Contrast. ENTER 4. Press . 5. Highlight a setting. Or press or if you selected Set Contrast. To exit without changing settings, press . BACK ENTER 6. Press to select the setting. CLEAR 7. Press when done. This product comes equipped with a brief demonstration which shows the features of this product and how to use them. 1. BACK a Follow the Arrows The flashing arrows on the right of the screen show which arrow keys you can press to move around menus or view more text. 4 Searching by TickerSymbol If you know a stock’s ticker symbol, you can find the stock’s name and the exchange that it is traded on. To search by a ticker symbol do the following. CLEAR 1. Press . 2. Type the letters of the desired ticker symbol, until it is highlighted (e.g., FEP). BACK To erase letters press . ENTER 3. Press . 4. Press or to read. Press MENUCLEAR to return to the Symbol menu. 5. Press when done. Finding a Ticker Symbol a Understanding Stock Entries In each stock entry there are always three pieces of information pertaining to the stock: the stock’s ticker symbol (e.g., FEP), the name of the stock (e.g., Franklin Electronic Pub. Inc.), and the exchange that it is traded on (AMEX, NASDAQ, or NYSE). The name of the stock may also show whether or not the stock is preferred or is a warrant, as well as showing the stock’s series, if it applies. a Moving between Menu Items From within a stock entry, you can hold I and press DN to go to the next stock entry, or hold I and press UP to go to the previous one. 5 Searching by the Stock Cartridge Care Name You can also search by the stock’s name. CLEAR 1. Press . 2. Highlight the Name menu. 3. Type the letters of the desired stock name, until it is highlighted (e.g., Franklin Electronic Pub. Inc.). BACK To erase letters press . ENTER 4. Press . 5. Press or to read. CLEAR 6. Press when done. a Another Way to Search You can also search for stock names by typing the first few letters of the stock name; then press to move down until the product you want is highlighted. a Viewing Full Menu Items Some menu items are followed by ellipses (...) because they are too long to fit on one line. Press ? ] to view the full menu item. • Do not touch the metal contacts on the cartridges. Caution: Touching these electrical contacts with statically charged objects, including your fingers, could erase information entered in a cartridge or built-in book. • Do not put excessive pressure on the cartridges. LBS. • Do not expose the cartridges to heat, cold, or liquids. 6 Resetting BOOKMAN If the BOOKMAN keyboard fails to respond, or if its screen performs erratically, first press CLEAR and then press ON/OFF twice.
