SHORT CORD INSTRUCTIONS A short power cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from entanglement or tripping overa longer cord. Longerdetachablepower supply cords are avallableand maybe used if carelsexercisedln their use. If a longerdetachablepower cord or extension cord Is used (1) the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at leastasgreatasthe electrical rating of the appliance,and (2)the longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape overthe countertop or table top where It can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally. Theelectricalrating of the appliancels listed on the bottom of the unit. If the appllanceisof the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounded type 3 wire cord. Thlsappllancehas a polarized plug. One blade Is wider than the other. Toreducethe risk of electrical shockthls plug will fit In a polarized plug only one way. If the plug doesnot fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in anyway. BEFORE FIRST USE Placethe box on a large, sturdy flat surface. Carefullyunpackyourespressomaker and remove all packaging material and literature. Removeany labelsor stickers from the machine. To remove any dust that may haveaccumulatedduring packaging,you may wipe the unit with a clean,damp cloth. Dry thoroughly. Do not immersethe espresso makerln water or other liquid. All accessories (filter holder, drip tray, measuringspoon, filter) must be washedwlth warm water and mild detergent. Rlnseand dry thoroughly. Do not use harsh or abraslvecleaners. (See Cleaning Your EspresscMaker section of this manual for detailed instructions.) Keepall plastic bags away from children. NOTE: We recommend that prior to brewing your first espressopperatethe espresscmakeronce or twice with water only, without ground coffee. Thlswill remove any dust that may have settled inside the espresscmakei; which may affect the flavor of the espresso.CAUTION: W^er is HOT 1. Placethe espresscmakeron a flat, level surfaceaway from any edge. Plug the unit Into a 120V/ 60Hzonly outlet. 2. Pressthe ON/OFFswitch and the delivery switch. TheON/OFRight will Illuminate and the pump will switch ON. 3. Walt until water beglnsto flow from the boiler nozzle. Thenturn the water deliveryswitch OFF. After about 2 minutes the OK Indicator light will Illuminate Indicating that the boiler hasreachedthe correct temperature. 4. Pressthe water deliveryswitch ONagalnfor 10-15seconds, allowing waterto flow from the boiler nozzle. Thenturn the water deliveryswitch OFF 5.
