manual abstract

The result is a reduction in cross color interference and an improvement in the picture quality. The R-G-B output offers the primary colors red, green, and blue including composite sync and sub-carrier signals at 5 BNC sockets at the rear side. Service is done at the component level, so it is not necessary to exchange a complete module. In addition the mechanical concept allows quick access to all parts for service purposes; all units are plugged into the motherboard. It identifies and briefly describes the functions of the front and rear panel controls and the display, and explains the practical aspects of operation to enable an operator to quickly evaluate the main functions of the instrument. 3.2 TURNING THE INSTRUMENT ON After the instrument has been connected to the line voltage in accordance with Section 1.1.3, it can be turned on by setting the POWER switch on the front panel to ON. The specifications given in Chapter 4 are valid when the instrument is installed in accordance with the instructions in Chapter 1 and a warm-up period of 30 minutes. After turning the power off, allow at least 5 seconds before turning it on again. This allows all power to completely discharge and the instrument to reset. 3.3 SELF-TEST ROUTINE Immediately after power is turned on, the instrument performs a self-test routine that tests the ROM and RAM. All LEDs are switched on for about 3 seconds. When the self-test routine ends, the instrument is automatically set to the operating mode to which it was set before POWER OFF. 3.4 BRIEF CHECKING PROCEDURE 3.4.1 General Information This procedure is intended to check the instrument’s functions with a minimum of test steps and actions. It is assumed that the operator doing this test is familiar with the instrument and its characteristics. If this test is started within a short period after turning the instrument on, test steps may be out of specification due to insufficient warm-up time. WARNING Before turning the instrument on, ensure it has been installed in accordance with the instructions mentioned in Chapter 1. (GB) 3-2 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS PM 5414 V 3.4.2 General Functional Test After POWER ON, the instrument is automatically set to the operating mode to which it was set before power off (test patterns). - Under the PATTERN area on the front panel, select patterns GREYSCALE/ COLOR BAR/MULTIBURST. - Connect the VIDEO OUTPUT at the front panel or the scart-connector at the rear to a suitable CTV or monitor (for example correct TV system, video input voltage; if necessary, adjust amplitude by turning VIDEO AMPL). - Check the correct video reproduction on the screen. - Select and check additional test patterns. - Connect PM 5414 V VIDEO OUTPUT to an oscilloscope (75 Q termination). - Select patterns GREYSCALE/WHITE. - Set the VIDEO AMPLITUDE to stop position 1 V. - Check that the video amplitude is 1 V (peak-peak), accuracy <5 %.
