Reset button IMPORTANT NOTES • Read through the instructions carefully before using the appliance for the first time. Safeguard them for future reference. • Before plugging the appliance into the mains, check that the voltage corresponds to that sta ted on the characteristics plate. Use an electrical socket with an earth connection • Never immerse the electrical par ts in water or any other liquid. • Before filling the fr yer with oil or fat make sure that all of the pieces are completely dr y and that there is no water in the pan or on the heating element. • Never switch the fr yer on before it has been filled with oil or fat. The amount of fat or oil used should always be between the minimum and maximum marks. Check that there is still enough oil or fat in the pan before any further frying. • Only use oils and fats recommended for fr yers. When fresh fat/lard in blocks or pieces is being used, melt it down in a saucepan beforehand and then pour it into the fr yer before switching it on. • Do not overfill the basket as this may cause the hot oil or fat to spill over the top of the fr yer. • Keep the fr yer out of children’s reach. Never leave it unattended. • The steam given off during fr ying is ver y hot. Keep a safe distance away from this steam. • Avoid moving the fr yer while it is operating. • Do not touch the hot surfaces. Use the handles or controls. • Af ter use put the switch to the “O” position, unplug the fr yer from the mains and leave it until it is cool enough to be moved. • Always unplug the fr yer when it is not in use and before cleaning it. • Never unplug it by tugging on the mains cable. Never leave the mains cable hanging freely. • Keep the fr yer and the cable away from hot surfaces. • Never use the fr yer for purposes other than those stated in this manual. • Do not use the fr yer appliance if either the cable or plug are damaged. Cable repairs and replacements must be carried out exclusively by an Authorised Technical Ser vice Centre. • NEVER USE THE FRYER WITH THE FRYER LID FITTED ON. • This appliance has been designed exclusively for domestic use. SAFETY The fr yer is equipped with a safet y thermostat that switches off the electric supply should it become too hot. If this happens: Leave the fr yer to cool down Carefully push the reset button back in with the help of a small rod. This button, marked “Restart”, is found at the back of the control panel, figure 1. To prevent the plug from being damaged, store the mains cable in the cable compartment. The fr yer is also equipped with a safety tri p switch that stops the heating element from working if the control module is not fitted into its housing correctly. Always keep children away from fr yers when they are switched on. USE Before using the fr yer for the first time, wash the basket, pan and lid in hot soapy water and then rinse and dr y them. 1. Always place the fr yer on a flat, stable surface. Uncoil the mains cable completely and make sure that it does not come into contact with any nearby sources of heat. 2. Use the plastic handle to lift off the lid. 3. Remove the basket. 4. Fill the pan with oil. The oil or fat level must always be bet ween the MIN (2 litres) and M A X (2.5 litres) marks on the inside of the pan. 5. Plug the appliance in and press the ON switch The ON lamp will light up, figure 2. 6. Select the correct temperature for the food to be fried. When the thermostat pilot lamp comes on, figure 3, this means that the oil has reached the selected temperature. 7. Place the basket into the drain -off position, figure 4. Place the food to be fried into the basket. Do not overfill the basket. Slowly lower the basket with the food into the oil, figure 5, NEVER PUT THE LID ON THE FRYER WHEN FRYING. 8. Af ter fr ying, switch the fr yer off (“0”) and unplug the fr yer from the mains supply. 9. Place the basket in the drain -off position. Note: If various foodstuffs are to be fried, wait for the oil to reach the set temperature between fries. Always check the immersion level before each use. The ideal oil level is somewhere between the MIN and MA X limits marked on the side of the fr ying pan. RECOMMENDATIONS Ufesa recommends the use of oil instead of fat when using this appliance. Solid fat can also be used but special precautions should be taken to stop it from splashing when it is melting. Do the following when using solid fat for fr ying: 1. Before the first fr y, melt the fat for the fr yer in a separate saucepan on a low heat. 2. Pour the liquid fat into the fr yer’s pan. Avoid splashing it. 3. Check that the liquid fat covers the minimum level mark. Switch the fr yer on and carr y out the fr ying. When solid fat which has been used for fr ying has solidified in the fr yer, proceed in the follo wing fashion: 1. Make some holes in the solidified fat with a sharp object.
