When a recording is programmed (timer), it shows the time symbol and the start time or the date of the first programmed recording. When no timer is programmed, the current time will be displayed. This box is not displayed during disc playback or recording. Read 'Child lock' and 'Authorizing discs' in the 'Child lock' chapter. aI see an 'X' in the menu bar on the screen. b DVDs can be manufactured in such a way that certain operations are required or only specific functions are possible during playback. When the 'X' symbol appears on the screen, the selected function is not available. aI see region code information on the screen. b Because DVD films are usually not released at the same time in all regions of the world, all DVD players are keyed to a specific region code. Discs can be assigned an optional region code. If the region codes of the player and disc do not coincide, playback is not possible. b The region code for a DVD player can be found on a label at the back of the device. Problem b There are no region codes for DVD+Rs. Inserting a disc 1 1 Press the OPEN/CLOSE J button on the front of the Recorder. The disc tray will open. ' ' will appear in the . . display, then ' . ' will appear while the tray is open. 2 2 Carefully place the disc into the tray with the label facing up, then press PLAY/PAUSE G9 or OPEN/CLOSE J .' ' then ' ' will appear on the display. This indicates that the disc is being read. How do I insert double@sided DVDs? Double-sided DVDs do not have labels on either side. The label for each side is placed in the middle (on the inner ring). To play a specific side, ? the label of the side you want to play must be on top or facing up. Playback Opening/Closing the tray using the remote control You can also use the remote control to open and close the disc tray. To do this, hold down the STOP h button on the remote control until ' 'or ' ' appears in the display. Tip 3 3 Playback starts automatically. A menu may appear during playback of a DVD. If the titles and chapters are numbered, press a number button on the remote control. You can also select a menu item with D , C , A , B , or with the number buttons 0..9 , then confirm with OK . You can also call up the disc menu during play by pressing DISC-MENU on the remote control. For more information, read section 'Playing a DVD'. When playing a DVD+RW, the Index Picture screen appears. Choose the title you want to play with B , A , N or O . Confirm with OK . For more information, read section 'Playing a DVD+RW or DVD+R.'
