4 Press the SETUP button to return to normal mode. Setting the Defeat Mode External Interrupt SPEAKER RIGHT FRONT SPEAKER RIGHT REAR SPEAKER LEFT REAR SPEAKER LEFT FRONT When interrupting external devices to this unit, turning DEFEAT ON will bypass BASS, TREBLE and MX for the external interrupt. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button for at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the f UP or g DN button to select the INTERRUPT mode. 3 Press the BAND button to toggle the mode between ON and OFF. When using Initial mode, set this to OFF. When the Initial mode is not selected, set this to OFF. 4 Press the SETUP button to return to normal mode. 19-EN SETUP Operation Adjusting Display Contrast (CDA-7897 only) BAND You can adjust the display contrast for better visibility. g DN f UP SETUP Rotary encoder Demonstration This unit has a Demonstration feature which simulates the display functions. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button for at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the f UP or g DN button to select the DEMO mode. 3 Press the BAND button to turn on or off the DEMO mode. Each press toggles between ON and OFF. If no button is pressed for 30 seconds, the DEMO mode activates. NOTES • The initial setting at the factory is “OFF.” • To quit DEMO mode, set to “OFF.” 4 Press the SETUP button again to return to normal operation. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button for at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the f UP or g DN button to select “CONTRAST.” 3 Turn the Rotary encoder to adjust the contrast of the display. You can adjust in a range of –6 to +6. The initial setting at the factory is “±0” 4 Press the SETUP button to return to normal mode. Opening Message ON/OFF Setting (CDA-7998 only) You can select whether the opening display is shown or not when power is turned ON. Choose between the standard display pattern and the downloaded Profile data display pattern. This function is only available if you have already downloaded the profile data. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button for at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the g DN or f UP button to select the OPENING MESSAGE mode. 3 Press the BAND button to toggle the mode between OFF and ON. OFF mode : This shows the standard display pattern. ON mode : This shows the downloaded Profile data and the calendar message after data downloading. NOTES • When selecting a mode with the BAND button, the display pattern is immediately shown. When OFF mode is selected, nothing is shown. • The initial setting at the factory is OFF mode. 4 Press the SETUP button to return to normal mode. 20-EN Switching the Animation Display type (CDA-7998 only) You can select your favorite animation display from five types of Pattern3 in “Switching the Display Modes.” 1 Press and hold the SETUP button for at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the g DN or f UP button to select ANIMATION mode. 3 Press the BAND to select your preferred display type. > OFF > type1 > type2 > type3 > type4 > type5 4 Press the SETUP button to return to normal mode. NOTES • After you select Pattern3 in “Switching the Display Modes,” the animation type you selected is shown. • The initial setting at the factory is OFF. Setting of Calendar Display Pattern Switching (CDA-7998 only) You can switch the calendar display pattern to be shown when the time is displayed. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button for at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the g DN or f UP button to select the CALENDER DISPLAY mode. 3 Press the BAND button to select your preferred display pattern. > mm/dd/yyyy > dd/mm/yyyy > yyyy/mm/dd yyyy : shows the year in the Christian Era mm : shows the month dd : shows the day ex. dd/mm/yyyy > 25/12/2001 4 Press the SETUP button to return to normal mode. 21-EN Radio Operation TUNE/A.ME SOURCE BAND Preset buttons (1 through 6) g DN f UP Manual Tuning 1 Press the SOURCE button until a radio frequency appears in the display. 2 Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Each press changes the band: > FM1 > FM2 > AM 3 Press the TUNE button repeatedly until “DX SEEK (DX)” and “SEEK (LOCAL)” disappear from the display. NOTE The initial mode is DX SEEK. 4 Press the g DN or f UP button to move downward or upward one step respectively until the desired station frequency is displayed. NOTE The ST indicator appears on the display when a Stereo FM station is tuned in. Automatic Seek Tuning 1 Press the SOURCE button until a radio frequency appears in the display. 2 Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Each press changes the band: 3 Press the TUNE button to illuminate the DX and SEEK (LOCAL) indicators in the display. With the DX (Distance) mode activated, both strong and weak stations will be tuned in the Auto-Seek operation. Press again to return to the local mode. The DX indicator will turn off and the SEEK (LOCAL) indicator will remain illuminated. Now, only strong stations will be tuned. 4 Press the g DN or f UP button to automatically seek for a station downward or upward respectively. The unit will stop at the next station it finds. ...
