Install 2 AAA batteries (included) into back of unit as shown in Figure H. Screw battery door back onto upper latch. Step 14: Assemble the spring onto the lower hinge post. Place the lower hinge cap over the spring and lower hinge spindle. Slide the lower hinge cap into place and secure with a wood screw. Ensure that the hinge is oriented as shown in Figure Q. Note: You must maintain equal spacing between walls and outer most panel bars. This space should not exceed 3" on NOTE: If Panel B is not needed, skip steps 15 and 16. Step 8: Snap upper latch with alarm onto upper latch plate assembly as shown in Figure I. Secure in place with the four provided alarm screws. Step 9: Choose the lower cup whose larger side faces stairs. Insert lower latch into lower cup and mount to wall using two wood screws at the bottom template position marked in Step 1. Be sure that the spindle rest opening faces up as shown in Figure J. NOTE: The remaining wall cup should be stored for future use. Step 10: Measure the width of the opening where you intend to install the gate. Please refer to the following pictures to determine the correct installation configuration. Final size adjustment must be made by individually adjusting the spindles. If opening is 28" - 30.5" wide, only Panel A is needed. If greater than 30.5" wide, use Panel A and Panel B. Step 11: Screw the upper and lower hinge spindles into the hinge side of ends of Panel A's ends until they stop as shown in Figure M and N. Step 12: Adjust the upper hinge spindle out until it can fit onto the hinge post on the upper hinge as shown in Figure O. Step 15: Align Panel B over Panel A allowing an approximately 2" gap between Panel B and the doorway. Step 16: To use with an extension Panel B, assemble as shown in Figure R. Align the adjustment screw holes in the top rails of extension A and B with a minimum overlap of 2 post screw holes, as shown in Figure R. Insert the post screw receivers into two aligned holes; insert and tighten post screws securely, as shown in Figure S. Now repeat this procedure for the bottom two rails ensuring that they are securely tightened. (28" - 30.5") with ftinel A (30.5" - 54") with Panels A & B Step 17: Screw upper and lower latch spindles into end of outermost panel as shown in Figure T and U.
