However, color irregularities may still be observed on certain types of TV sets. As the surround speakers are not magnetically shielded, we recommend that you place the surround speakers slightly further away from TV set. If color irregularity is observed... c Turn off the TV set, then turn it on again in 15 to 30 minutes. If color irregularity is observed again... c Place the speakers further away from the TV set. If howling occurs Reposition the speakers or turn down the volume on the amplifier. On placement • Do not install the speakers in an inclined position. • Do not place the speakers in locations that are: – Extremely hot or cold – Dusty or dirty – Very humid – Subject to vibrations – Subject to direct sunlight • Use caution when placing the speaker on a specially treated (waxed, oiled, polished, etc.) surfaces, as staining or discoloration may result. On cleaning Clean the speaker cabinets with a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution or water. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzine. If you have any questions or problems concerning your speaker system, please consult your nearest Sony dealer. Surround (right) Surround (droite) Hooking up the system Connect the speaker system to the speaker output terminals of an amplifier (A). Be sure to use the long speaker cords to connect the surround speakers and the short speaker cords to connect the front and center speakers. Make sure power to all components (included the sub woofer) is turned off before starting the hook up. Notes (B) • Make sure the plus (+) and the minus (–) terminals on the speakers are matched to the corresponding plus (+) and minus (–) terminals on the amplifier. • Be sure to tighten the screws of the speaker terminals securely as loose screws may become a source of noise. • Make sure all connections are firm. Contact between bare speaker wires at the speaker terminals may cause a short-circuit. • For details on speaker connection of the amplifier, refer to the operating instructions supplied with your amplifier. Tip Black striped wires are minus (–) in polarity, and should be connected to the minus (–) speaker terminals. Positioning the speakers (C) Each speaker should face the listening position. Better surround effect will result if all speakers are installed at the same distance from the listening position. Place the front speakers at a suitable distance to the left and right of the TV. Place the sub woofer (not supplied) on either side of the TV. Place the center speaker on the top-center of the TV set. The placement of surround speakers greatly depends on the configuration of the room. You may place the surround speakers on the left and right of the listening position A, or behind the listening position B. Note Be sure to place the speaker in a flat, horizontal place. Installing the center speaker (D) To put the center speaker on your TV set, attach a foot pad (supplied) to each bottom corner of the speaker, and make sure that the speaker is completely flat on top of the TV. Installing the surround speakers on the wall (E) You can hang the surround speaker with a hook (not supplied) on the wall. You are responsible for the proper selection and use of mounting hardware that you purchase at hardware stores, and for the proper and safe mounting of the speakers. Installing the surround speakers on the speaker stand Detach the screw (F) from the speaker and use it when you install the speaker to the speaker stand. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the speaker stand. You are recommended to use the optional WS-FV11 or WS-FV10D speaker stand (available only in certain countries). Setting the amplifier When connecting to an amplifier with internal multi channel decoders (Dolby Digitala), DTSb), etc.), you should use the setup menus for the amplifier to specify the parameters of your speaker system. The setup menus for the amplifier differ depending on whether or not a sub woofer (not supplied) is used. See the table below for the proper settings. For details on the setting procedure, refer to the operating instructions supplied with your amplifier.
